Douglas V. Epp, MBA, Chairman
Residence: Cleveland Heights, OH
Douglas V. Epp received his B.A. and B.S. degree from Penn State University and received his M.B.A. degree from Case Western Reserve University. Early in his career, he was involved with the Oberlin College Endowment Fund. He was Vice President and Department Head at Huntington National Bank from 1985 to 1994. He was hired in 1994 at Sterling Asset Management Company and served as President from 1994 to 2000. In 2000, he became Vice President at Weber, Fulton, and Felman Asset Management, which later became BNY Mellon Financial Corporation. He retired from BNY Mellon Financial Corporation in 2007 after a very successful career in investment management. Mr. Epp currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Geauga County Humane Society-Rescue Village Foundation. He joined the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Board of Trustees in 1985 and has served as Chairman and Treasurer. He served on the OCPM Board of Trustees until May of 2012. He has served as Chairman of the Board for the OCPM Foundation since July 1, 2012.
Steven J. Berlin, DPM, Board Member
Residence: St. Thomas, Virgin Islands USVI
Dr. Steven Berlin graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 1966 and went on to be the Chief of Podiatric Clinic at Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He was inducted into the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Hall of Fame Society in 2008. He served as President and Podiatric Director of Podiatric Pathology Laboratories, a division of Quest Diagnostics, Inc. In addition, he is currently the Medical Director and Senior Vice President at Ogenix Corporation, a start-up company formed in Cleveland, Ohio. He is also active in emergency medical evacuation and in working with organ transplant organizations in Washington, DC, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania with the Baltimore Helicopter's Inc. He served on the OCPM Board of Trustees until May of 2012. He served on the OCPM Board of Trustees, most recently as Chairman of the Board, until May of 2012. He currently serves on the KSU CPM Advisory Board and has served on the OCPM Foundation Board since July of 2012.
Henry B. Green, DPM, Board Member
Residence: Bowling Green, OH
Dr. Henry Green is a doctor of Podiatric Medicine and has a private practice in Rossford and Perrysburg, OH. He is a 1968 graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and was inducted into the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Hall of Fame Society in 2007. He served as Chief of Podiatry at Riverside Mercy Hospital in Toledo, OH from 1983-1998. He was the past President of the Ohio Podiatric Medical Association and the past President of the Fund for Podiatric Medical Education, raising $1,000,000 providing 45 scholarships to students. He served as past chairman of the Northwest Ohio Regional Emergency Medical Services Council. He is a member of local, state and national podiatric medical associations and the recipient of various awards and honors. He served on the OCPM Board of Trustees until May of 2012. He currently serves on the KSU CPM Advisory Board and has served on the OCPM Foundation Board since July of 2012.
James Mirgliotta, Board Member
Residence: Aurora, OH
James Mirgliotta is the Executive Vice President of Forest City Erectors, Inc., one of Northern Ohio’s most prominent steel erection companies. He has owned and operated this business since 1961. He has been involved in the steel erection business for over 50 years as a craftsman and successful entrepreneur. He is Chairman of the Board of Columbus Steel Erectors, Inc. and past Chairman of the Board of Precast Services, Inc., a company he founded in 1987. He served as Chairman of Liberty Bank from 1989 to 2003. He is a member and past President of the Twinsburg Rotary Club. He joined the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Board of Trustees in 2006 and served as Chairman of the Building Committee for the college’s relocation from Cleveland to Independence. He served on the OCPM Board of Trustees until May of 2012. He has served on the OCPM Foundation Board since July of 2012.
Richard A. Ransom, DPM, Board Member
Residence: Wooster, OH
Dr. Richard Ransom is a doctor of Podiatric Medicine and founded the group practice Podiatric Health Physicians, Inc. in 1986. He is board certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Ransom is a graduate of The Ohio State University and obtained his doctorate at the Ohio College ofPodiatric Medicine in 1972. He served as Associate Professor of Surgery at OCPM from 1981-1997, in addition he was a member of the college board of trustees from 1983 to 2012, having served as Board Chairman from 1994-1998. Dr. Ransom was the recipient of the Honorary Degree, Doctor of Humane Letters from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 2000. He holds many awards and honors, including induction into the OCPM Hall of Fame Society and recognition as a Distinguished Practitioner by the National Academies of Practice. He is an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Ohio Podiatric Medical Association and the Mideastern Academy of Podiatry. Dr. Ransom currently serves on the KSU CPM Advisory Board, as well as the OCPM Foundation Board.
Eugene M. Pascarella, DPM, MBA, Board Member
Residence: Longwood, FL
Dr. Gene Pascarella currently is the president and medical director of the Foot and Ankle Associates of Florida. He is a founder of Integrated Physician Systems, a national medical practice management company. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Florida Bank of Commerce and as serves on the Audit Committee for the bank. He is the past Vice Chairman of the Board of Southern Community Bank. A 1982 graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Pascarella also served as Chief Operating Officer of the Park Place Surgery Center. He is on the teaching staff of Florida Hospital for both family practice residents and podiatric residents. He served on the OCPM Board of Trustees until May of 2012. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the KSU CPM Advisory Board. He has served on the OCPM Foundation Board since July of 2012.
David R. Nicolanti, PhD, Board Member, Executive Director
Residence: Sandusky, OH
Dr. David R. Nicolanti joined the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 1977 as the Controller and in 1979 was promoted to the V.P. of Finance. In 1984, he became the Executive Vice President and has been serving in this capacity for 29 years.
Dr. Nicolanti negotiated the sale of the Carnegie Avenue property to the Cleveland Clinic and the purchase of the college’s new home in Independence, OH. The college moved from its location in Cleveland, OH to its state-of-the art facility in 2007.
In July of 2012, the college merged with Kent State University becoming the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Nicolanti continues to serves as the EVP for the campus. KSUCPM is one of the largest and most respected podiatric medical education institutions in the country and the only accredited podiatry school in Ohio. Dr. Nicolanti was an integral part of the acquisition process with Kent State University. The acquisition was designed to provide the best education and training for podiatric students, giving them expanded academic options, including such areas as public health, biomedical sciences, medical ethics and sports medicine. The merger with Kent State also offers the opportunity for strategic research and teaching collaborations.
Dr. Nicolanti received his Ph.D. in 1991 in Educational Administration in Higher Education from Kent State University. His dissertation was titled, “Characteristics, experiences, attitudes, and other factors related to alumni who provide financial support to their podiatry colleges”. He received his MBA in Accounting in 1976 from Case Western Reserve University and his B.S.-B.A. in 1969 from John Carroll University. He has been a certified public accountant since 1979.
Prior professional positions included serving as economist/statistician for a large trade association, instructor in finance, regional accountant for a voluntary higher education group, and director for a large national transportation firm.
Dr. Nicolanti has lent his expertise in the financial and managerial area by serving as board member and treasurer for the Alta House from 1981 to 2000 and as board member and treasurer for Economics America from 1997 to 2000.
Jon Carlson, MBA, Treasurer
Residence: Berea, OH
Mr. Jonathan Carlson currently serves as an associate vice president of finance at Kent State University. Prior to the KSU appointment in January of 2013, he served as the Vice President of Finance for the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. Mr. Carlson began his career at OCPM in May of 1999. His past professional experience included work in public accounting. Mr. Carlson holds an MBA from Baldwin Wallace University and a BSBA from the Ohio State University. Mr. Carlson currently serves on three Boards; the Berea Community Development Corporation as Vice President, the Berea Youth Football Foundation as Treasurer, and the Bridge Avenue School as Treasurer. Mr. Carlson was appointed Treasurer for the OCPM Foundation board in July of 2012.
Lori Albert, Secretary
Residence: Bay Village, OH
Mrs. Lori Albert serves as the special assistant to the Executive Vice President at the Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine. Mrs. Albert joined The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in March of 1999 as the executive assistant to the EVP. She has assisted on numerous OCPM board committees including the Finance and Operations Committee, the Development Committee, the Building Committee, and the Affiliation Exploration Committee. Mrs. Albert is currently assisting on the KSU CPM Advisory Board Committee. She was appointed Secretary to the OCPM Foundation Board in July of 2012.
